Summer Wedding Reception

Summer Wedding Reception

Summers in Maine keep visitors coming back year after year and Rose and Collin chose one of our beautiful, sunny, Maine summer weekends for their wedding. They were married at the stunning and historic Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul in Lewiston, Maine by Reverend Matthew Gregory. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests made the quick 30 minute drive to Bonaventura Vineyards for their barn wedding reception. Although it was quite possibly the hottest weekend of the summer, there was a breeze here in Hartford and the heat did not stop Rose and Collin and their guests from

Take a seat!

We are proud to be able to offer our guests wooden farm-style tables made on site here at Bonaventura Vineyards by our own Chad Casey. The majority of these tables have been constructed from reclaimed wood from our barn, much of it from the haylofts that were in place when we purchased the property. The tables are included in both packages can accommodate up to 125 guests. We are also able to provide chairs if needed for up to 125 guests (https://bonaventuravineyards.com/the-packages/ ). We currently have 16 tables on site and 125 chairs. Our smallest table is the sweetheart table,

The Sign

The Sign

We have been talking about a sign for the property for almost two years. Like many other aspects of the property we knew we wanted to construct the sign ourselves and include a connection to the history of the property if we could. Over the course of the past couple years, we have enjoyed looking at and discussing other signs we have seen and what we liked or maybe did not like about them in an effort to bring our vision to life. We came across letters that we really liked the style of at a winery tasting room in

Pruning the Vines, Part I

Pruning the Vines, Part I

One of my least favorite parts of tending vines, but one that can’t be ignored. Pruning. It’s got the same ring to it as weeding for me. Except with pruning, I’m actually taking off parts of a healthy viable plant. With weeds you’re just getting rid of something that wants to take over your garden or yard and ruin everything. It’s not the labor part that makes me hesitate to go into the vineyard to lop off shoot after shoot of potential grape producing branches. It’s the fact that I haven’t mastered the skill of choosing what to cut and

Maple Syrup Season, Part III

Maple Syrup Season, Part III

The final step in the syrup making process involves a finish boil of the sap we transferred from the evaporator into the pots. We complete this process in the house on our kitchen stove top. Check out the Part I http://bonaventuravineyards.com/?p=761 and Part II http://bonaventuravineyards.com/?p=844 blog posts to read about the initial steps that brought us to this point. The goal is a rolling boil, just like with the evaporator. When we have multiple pots, we boil them both at the same time, then as the level drops in each pot, we transfer what remains in the smaller pot into

Maple Syrup Season, Part II

Maple Syrup Season, Part II

Since Chad is tied up today with the boiling process, I am taking back over the blog for Part II of our series on the maple syrup season here at Bonaventura Vineyards. This year marks the most amount of snow still on the ground when we started boiling; Chad had to shovel out and around the evaporator. Once we have collected enough sap, we wait for a minimum of 30-40 gallons, we begin the process of boiling it down to remove the water. When the sap comes out of the tree it consists of only 2-4% sugar, the rest is

The Garden, Part I

The Garden, Part I

This time of year we really start to think Spring here at Bonaventura Vineyards, more specifically Spring planting and our garden. Over the years both of us have kept gardens of varying sizes so once we moved here with all this outdoor space it is not surprising that we have planted a garden that has grown in size each year. In prior years the garden has been on the north side of the barn, in a spot where we believe the prior owners had theirs years ago; this year we are planning to relocate slightly, however it will still be
